Admissions

Admissions Policy:

Thank you for your interest in the Adda Clevenger School. On top of a full academic program, students have specialized instruction in music, dance, art, physical education, creativity, speech and drama. Practical application is a central feature of the School's academic as well as arts programs. This is where students learn to maintain focus over extended time periods, to collaborate, to prioritize and organize their time, and to learn how to succeed through a process that includes both hard work and team work. Universal participation in all aspects of the school, both academic and the arts, is a requirement.

To be successful in this physically and intellectually challenging environment, students need strong and constructive support and encouragement from their families. In addition, Adda Clevenger students and their families are expected to be fully supportive of the school community and its programs. For this reason, parents or guardians play a critical role in the admissions process.

We assess students by observing their interaction and participation during a 2-or-3-day school visit, and we request historical records and teacher recommendations in order to ensure compatibility of child and school.

All applications will be treated in a fair and sensitive manner; all admissions materials received are handled and maintained as confidential materials. Adda Clevenger is committed to the concept of equal opportunity without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, or other legally impermissible factors.

Application Process:

We strive to make the application and admission process as stress-free and uncomplicated as possible. We understand the pressure that families in San Francisco feel to apply to as many schools as possible in order to increase their chances and choices for admission. It can feel like a shark tank at times, and some of that stress may unfortunately trickle down to our children. The Adda Clevenger School encourages families to limit and concentrate their time and effort on those schools whose mission and philosophy they feel most closely align with the values of their family and their educational and developmental priorities for their children. Our rolling admissions process is intended to help you do that.

Step 1: Please submit the online inquiry. We will respond quickly to let you know whether we have an opening in your child’s class.

Step 2: If we have an opening in your child’s class, we will schedule an introductory meeting for you with a member of our Admissions team. This meeting will be online and is intended only for parents.

Step 3: Following your meeting with Admissions, if you wish to proceed, please complete the online application. To request a teacher evaluation from your child’s current school, please use this form for TK through Kindergarten, and this form for 1st grade through 8th grade. To request academic records from your child's current school, please sign and forward the Records Release Form to your child's school.

The application fee is $250.

  • If you receive and accept an offer of enrollment for your child at Adda Clevenger, you will receive a credit of $225 toward the first year’s tuition.
  • If we are unable to offer your child a spot, we will refund $225 of the application fee, retaining $25 to cover our online processing costs.
  • The application fee is not refundable if you withdraw the application or decline an offer of enrollment.

Step 4: Upon receiving your child’s application, we will schedule an opportunity for you to visit Adda Clevenger in person. Please note: school visits are not available over school breaks and holidays. If desired, we will also be happy to connect you with a current Adda Clevenger parent.

Step 5: Shadow visit.

  • Students applying for grades 1 through 8 will be scheduled to shadow in their current grade for 3 consecutive days.
  • Students applying for Kindergarten shadow for 2 days in TK2.
  • Students applying for TK2 shadow in TK1 for a half-day followed by a full day.
  • Students applying for TK1 may shadow or may come for a short visit together with their parents, depending on their level of comfort at the time.

Step 6: Enrollment offers remain valid for seven (7) days. If you decline the enrollment offer, you may still be able to enroll at a later date for the same school year if space is available in the class. Please be sure to contact Admissions to confirm availability.
