2025 Summer Theater Camp 2025 - 3rd - 9th Grade

This summer, we will be offering three separate theater camps:

June 30 - July 3 (4 days), Audition Camp, grades 5-8 - $600
July 7 - 11 (5 days), Devising Theater Camp, grades 3-6 - $750
August 11 - 15 (5 days), Shakespeare Camp, grades 3-8 - $750

Students may sign up on a weekly basis or $1900 for all 3 weeks, exclusive of transportation and field trip costs.

There will be additional activities, such as field trips to museums and shows, improv and theater games, dance etc. to round out a full camp day and week.

Hours: Camp will be held from 8:00 am to 5:00pm.  Early drop-off and late pick-up are available for an additional fee and by special arrangement only.  

Lunch: Choicelunch is not available for the summer program, so students will need to bring lunch and snacks.

Week-By-Week

Audition camp (6th to 9th grade)

Camp Agenda: Prep students for high school auditions and beyond. Students will select two age-appropriate, contrasting monologues to memorize and perform. Students will learn techniques for memorizing material, how to break a monologue into beats, how to slate, and how to take direction during an audition. On the last day of camp, students will participate in a mock audition.

Learning objectives: confidence, adaptability, and developing a calm demeanor for auditions

Day 1: Meet and greet, getting to know ourselves and picking appropriate contrasting material.

Day 2: Breaking monologues into beats and memorization workshop.

Day 3: Slating, taking direction, and impromptu 2 person scene prep (sides will be given).

Day 4: Mock auditions will be held and feedback given. Pizza party after.

Devising Theater Camp (3th to 6th grade)

Camp agenda: Devising is a specialized craft that builds artists creativity and collaboration skills, combining playwriting and acting. Students will write a story from scratch and bring it to life on the stage using physical acting. Students will learn notate scripts with blocking. Students will learn how to produce a show from the ground up, creating their own props and set, as well as sourcing their own costumes. The camp will end in a performance for parents, but students will not be required to be off book.

Learning objectives: Collaboration, Story building, Designing for theater

Day 1: One word story exercise and develop into a story structure. Volunteering/Assigning characters.

Day 2: Writing dialogue with improv. The day will end with a fully written script.

Day 3: Printed Scripts will be handed out. Students will be writing their blocking into scripts, learning SL, SR, DS, and US. Blocking the show on our feet.

Day 4: First three hours will bring costumes from home and craft props out of art supplies. Second last hour dress rehearsal with costumes and props.

Day 5: Students' parents will be invited to come watch the scripted performance. *6pm start time

August 11th-August 15th- Shakespeare Camp (3th-9th grade)

Camp Agenda: Students will have the opportunity to learn about and perform Shakespeare in a fun collaborative way. Students will learn to interpret text to modern language. Students will have the opportunity to design their own props and costumes. This 4 day camp will commence with a Romeo and Juliet themed spirit day and a Saturday field trip to Redwood City to see a Shakespeare production.

Learning Objectives: Understanding who Shakespeare was and the work he made, Reading and performing heightened language, self-directing, designing props

Day 1: Brief history of Shakespeare and plays we will be doing. Students will be assigned 2-4 person scenes to rehearse and perform for other groups. The groups will be using No Fear Shakespeare to translate the language and understand texts.

Day 2: Students will block their scenes in the round (like the Globe Theater) and determine what props and costumes they need. Students will build listed props in arts and crafts and source costumes from home for Day 3.

Day 3: Students will perform scenes for class in a circle. After scenes, students will watch the movie Gnomeo and Juliet together in preparation for Day 4. Teams and team colors for tomorrow will be revealed

Day 4: Romeo and Juliet day. R and J death scenes competition, sword fight representatives from teams, Capulets vs Montagues relay races, make up team cheers, Shakespeare insult writing,

Day 5: Saturday, August 16th Field trip to Redwood City (need to source school bus or a parent carpool) for 6pm showing of Shakespeare in the Park’s “The Two Gentlemen of Verona” *5pm start time
